Update from our wolf expedition to Germany
Hello Germany expeditioners! This is a short diary entry from your expedition leader, Malika, to let you know that final preparations for our wolf conservation expedition in Germany are officially underway. We are almost fully set for this year’s wolf monitoring expedition, and the excitement is definitely building.
Lotte, our dedicated expedition scientist, and I will be arriving at our base camp at Naturcampus Bockum a couple of days ahead of you to get everything organised, set up the equipment and ensure a smooth start to our research.

Beating the Heat Wave and Preparing for the Field
If you have been watching the weather forecast, you know that Germany is currently being struck by a major heat wave, with temperatures soaring close to 40°C. Fortunately, forecasts show that conditions should return to normal by the end of next week just as we begin our work.
However, variable weather is a core part of outdoor research. Even if it feels like high summer right now, please do not forget to pack your high-quality rain gear and sturdy walking footwear. Fieldwork continues rain or shine and being prepared for all weather conditions is essential for a successful week of tracking and monitoring.
Essential Reading for Wolf Conservation in Germany
I hope your personal preparations and packing are going smoothly, and you have studied the dossier. As you finalise your gear, please take some time to dive into the background research. If you haven’t already, make sure to read the 2025 expedition report as part of your final preparation. Reviewing past data and distribution maps is the best way to understand the methodology we will be using in the field.
