About Biosphere

Award-winning, non-profit and ethical wildlife conservation volunteering. Advancing citizen science and conservation since 1999 – for nature, not profit.

With our planet under attack like never before, it is our mission to make, through our citizen science volunteer conservation holidays, an active contribution towards a sustainable biosphere. At Biosphere Expeditions we believe in empowering ordinary people by placing them at the centre of scientific study as wildlife conservation volunteers and by actively involving them out in the field as citizen scientists, where there is conservation work to be done. We are a visionary member of the IUCN, the UN’s Environment Programme and the European Citizen Science Association. Working hand-in-hand with local biologists and communities, we champion change and protect nature. And we succeed – the creation of protected areas on four continents is just one example.

Come and join us! Make your holiday time count as a wildlife volunteer and share in our vision of a healthier, more sustainable planet. Together – for nature, not profit – let’s act like our world depends on it. Because it does.

  1. Dear Sirs

I am interested in being part of one of your volunteer teems in 2013. Have you got a brochure you can send me of opportunities to be part of your good work?

    Yours faithfully

    Sarah Baker

    1. Dear Sarah – Thank you for your interest in our work. We do not produce printed brochures for obvious reasons of environmental impact. All our conservation projects are on http://www.biosphere-expeditions.org. In addition to this, our annual Biosphere Expeditions Magazine at http://www.biosphere-expeditions.org/magazine contains stories from the field, achievements, looks behind the scenes and an overview of our expeditions, projects, taster days and other activities.

  2. Hey Sarah! Go for it! As a member of slot 4 this September, I can attest that this adventure in volunteering will be well worth your time and money. You will work but will also find yourself looking forward to each new day with new enthusiasm. It’s a long slog from the west coast of the US and a world away in experience; but what a world!

  3. Dear Susan – Thank you very much for the public endorsement and we are very glad you enjoyed your expedition experience. The expedition you are referring to was our big cats & elephant conservation project in Namibia, Africa (http://www.biosphere-expeditions.org/namibia). Would you mind posting your comment on our Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/biosphere.expeditions1) and Google+ (https://plus.google.com/b/103347005009999707934/) pages too to spread the word?

  4. We recently featured Biosphere Expeditions in our Winter Sporting Adventures & Activities guide and it definitely was one of the stronger entries http://www.aircharter.co.uk/about-us/news-features/blog/winter-adventures-and-activities. The Rare Slovakian Biosphere Expedition seems like one of the better ways to occupy the winter months and spend your free time. We’d like to thank Dr Matthias Hammer for working with us and being so responsive and would recommend Biosphere Expeditions to all wildlife and conservation lovers — do something good and contribute to the lives of animals 🙂
